When I was a music major in college, I had to listen to a lot of crap progressive music. And call it “art.” Because that’s what music majors do.

See, we didn’t just listen to Beethoven, Brahms, and Wagner (pronounced, “VAHG-ner”). We listened sometimes to this really weird experimental stuff. Stuff done with electronic sound devices instead of instruments even. Really weird stuff. And it’s “art”–I know, because the professors told me it was. Apparently some guy even wrote a song with 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence and called it music. (Now that’s enough to wake you up on a Monday morning.)

Okay, time to tell tales on my good friend Aaroneous. (Don’t know why I was remembering this just now, but here we go…)

He and I were on a worship team together some time ago, and we were playing some new song for the first time in church. (Don’t ask me what song, I don’t remember now.) Not only were we having to concentrate on the song because it was new, but it was also in E-flat, a key we almost never played in. I was leading from the piano, and Aaroneous was behind me playing bass and doing BGVs (that’s “background vocals”, for you not-in-the-know, non-musical types). 🙂

Okay, so I realize that Oklahoma usually has the lowest gas prices in the nation, being oil country and all…so this is probably gonna sound to some of you readers like I’m being a crybaby here. But…what the hey…here goes.

Dear Gasoline People (I don’t know what else to call you),

I monitor the price of oil. The last time it was at $92 a barrel, we were paying $2.69 a gallon here in Tulsa.

Today, the price of oil is once again at $92 a barrel. And the price of gas? $3.69 a gallon.

I’m sharing this true story with permission from my good friend Dr. Fuh. This actually happened, and it’s kind of funny…or it would be if it weren’t so, um, serious…

My good friend Dr. Fuh called me this evening to tell me what happened to him when he left the clinic to go to IHOP for dinner this evening. The waitress who served him saw his scrubs and asked if he was a nurse. No, explained–he was a doctor.

This started some small talk, and Dr. Fuh asked the waitress (whom we’ll call Jennifer–not her real name) what her career aspirations were.

“I’m preparing for the ministry,” Jennifer told him.

Brief my message will be today. When 900 years old you reach, preach as long, you will not. Hm? (audience laughter)

John 3:16 (paraphrase, I will) says… “For so loved the world did God, that His only son begotten He gave, that those who believeth on Him, perish should not, but everlasting life should have.”

Everlasting life–seems something I should know about, hm? (audience laughter)

So I’m not one to snoop, or pay enough attention to The Wild One’s cosmetic collection. But when this is sitting on the bathroom vanity, it’s hard not to notice.

Can you see the writing on the bottom, describing the product?

It says, “Skin rev-er upper.”

Seriously.

What, exactly, IS “skin rev-er-upper?” What does “skin rev-er upper” actually do?

What does “rev-ed up skin” look like? Or…sound like???

This stuff undoubtedly isn’t cheap. Did someone get paid to name this product?

It sounds like one of those all-purpose elixirs the peddlers used to sell–the kind with mystery ingredients like “armpitium-3”.
