Okay, Since You’ve Obviously Been Wondering…Here’s 25 Random Things About Me

Okay, so I’ve now been tagged twice for this, both times in Facebook…first by Jim, and now by Karen. But since my blog is linked to my Facebook, and I spend most of my time in blog-land…I’m posting it here so it’ll show up in both places. 🙂

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you. you are obviously exempt if you have already posted.

Okay, here goes…

Hey! What’s This White Stuff Falling From the Sky?

After experiencing one of the wettest years on record for this area…so far this has been a very dry winter for Tulsa. Several cold snaps, and just a teensy bit of freezing drizzle…but almost no rain, and no snow. Guess Portland’s been getting all of it this year (sorry, Erin).

So this morning I get up and leave the house to go to my favorite blogging spot, and there’s this crazy looking white stuff falling from the sky, and blowing in rippled patterns across the road.

Favorite Movie Lines, and A Fun(ny) Movie Line Story

Categories: fun, What the heck was THAT?

You might as well know this about me: I am notorious for quoting movies in middle of conversations. You might have even noticed that I do this sometimes on the blog.

I love to do it especially when the movie line somehow fits into the conversation as though it belonged there. Adds to the humor.

The Director does this, too. Sometimes The Director and I will have entire conversations using only movie lines, while The Wild One yanks out her hair.

Just as an example…here are just a sample of some of the movie lines I use most often. See if you can guess them. (Answers are below.)

Words I See All the Time But Nobody Seems to Know What They Actually Mean

I am a bit of a wordsmith. I like to write, and I like to talk (and I like to hear myself talk–a dynamic that doesn’t happen in blogland). I like to think that I have a formidable command of the English language, with an expansive repertoire of vocabulary words.

Indubitably. (I just threw that in for effect.)

A short rabbit trail…I used to have this friend named Ernesto that could blow us all out of the water vocabulary-wise. He was a preacher, and he had no problem getting up in front of everybody and throwing words out there like parametrage (which isn’t even English) and look at us all like we were supposed to know what it meant. Anyhow.

My Favorite and Un-Favorite Christmas Carols

Categories: fun, What the heck was THAT?

Okay, so this local radio station that usually plays the hits of the “’80s, ’90s, and today” has been doing constant Christmas music since Thanksgiving. I love having that kind of thing around, especially while driving in the flower van. I commented to a coworker today that I am glad no one is in the van with me while the radio is playing. (Think Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle.)

My only complaint is that they only seem to play the same 20 Christmas songs on this station. Or maybe it’s twenty different versions of those 20 songs. Anyhow, it all runs together.

Are You Christianized?

**TONGUE IN CHEEK ALERT**

Based on the discussion from yesterday’s post–and Steve’s suggestion that the word “Christianize” has become a verb–I’m thinking we should use that word more often.

“Christianize.”

What does it mean when something is Christianized? It means that we have attached a label on it that differentiates it–and insulates it–from the world. It means we Christians can trust it as safe, sterile, and untainted by the evil world we live in. (Not unlike when milk is “pasteurized” so it’s safe to drink.) So for example, when some Christian singer sings a Christian song and releases it on a Christian record label…we can buy it with peace of mind, knowing it is family-friendly and will make us feel good.

Do You Know What Day It Is??

That’s right, folks…it’s BLOG COMMENT DAY!!! (Sorry for shouting…hard to contain the excitement ’round here…)

Actually, it’s okay if you don’t know it’s Blog Comment Day. Apparently, this is the very first one. But it is my opinion that we don’t have nearly enough holidays between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I’m all for this.

Blog Comment Day is the brainchild of John Smulo. Here’s what he says about it:
Though there may be 100 reasons why people blog, I’ve yet to meet a blogger who doesn’t appreciate comments. For this reason I’m starting Blog Comment Day on December 3, 2008. Here’s how it works:
  • On December 3, 2008 you will leave one comment on at least 5 different blogs.
