A New Look for This Here Now Blog

Categories: random stuff

I got a bit tired of the basic Blogger layouts, so I’m trying something new. If you’re reading this in a reader, click over to my page and see whatcha think!

****UPDATE 9/8, 10:30 AM****
Based on your comments so far, I dug into the XML code (which I happen to know NOTHING about) and just happened to find the URL that was making the colors fade down the page. I deleted it and changed the color to the default. That seems to make the page more readable on my computer; let me know if this has helped.

The only other glitch I’ve noticed is that my page is loading a little funky, kind of putting the items on left-to-right on my screen. Let me know if you see this or any other issues when loading the page. Thanks, guys!!

A Totally Weird, Random, Off-the-Wall, Fun Blogging Game

Categories: fun, random stuff, What the heck was THAT?

I have an idea. Let’s play a game, boys and girls.
(I know you can’t see me, but I’m wearing my Mr. Rogers “It’s Good In the Hood” t-shirt today.)

Here’s how the game goes:

  1. Click to leave a comment.
  2. In the comment box, type the “word verification” thing that Blogger gives you.
  3. Then, in the comments, try to turn the word verification thing into an acronym. (It can be a made-up slogan, a made-up business or organization name, whatev. Just try to make it work.)

Here’s an example:

Checking In, Randomness and Some Link Love

Categories: fun, link love, random stuff

Moonlighting (um, sun-lighting?) delivering flowers several days a week has been taking a bit of a toll, both on my time and on my blog think-a-bility. Just a bit of an adjustment…plus everytime I stay up half the night to watch a movie, it takes me a few days to get back on track. 🙂

Worth it, though.

So, just checking in to say hi to all you folks in blogland, and I should be back to my deep musings soon.

Here are a few links I found interesting this week:

Well, it appears a growing number of my blogger friends are on blogger vacation or something. Fewer postings on their blogs, fewer comments that they’re leaving on my blog. Some have other stuff going on. (Glenn, for example, has taken a long-awaited job, and doesn’t have much time, or hasn’t learned yet how to sneak in some blogging at work.) Some are probably out enjoying the summer weather. (Well, that can’t be Heather’s excuse; it’s WINTER where she is.) And this lack-of-blogging epidemic isn’t relegated to us small fry, either; some of the better-known bloggers are taking breaks, too. Brant even had the audacity to announce that he’s taking July off. (The nerve of that guy–not entertaining us during the boringest month of the year next to January.)

Favorite Lines from "The Princess Bride"

Categories: fun, movies, random stuff, Things that Are Amazingly Awesome, What the heck was THAT?

So, okay, I’m strange.

I have this thing about injecting movie lines into conversations without warning. People who recognize the movie line usually laugh; others look at me like I have Turret’s or something.

The Princess Bride, in my opinion, has probably more fun and memorable lines than any other movie I’ve seen. So for your amazement amusement…below are five of my favorite lines from this classic:

5. “No more rhymes, now, I mean it.” “Anybody want a peanut?”

Random Stuff I Did In And Around Joplin, Missouri During the Past Three Days

  1. Drove around hunting around for photo opportunities for The Wild One. (This picture on the right is one of the more artistic photos she took–not an example of the scenery.)
  2. Talked for a half hour to some shop owners in historic Carthage, Missouri about their town’s history and colonial furniture.
  3. Ate not-really-Chinese food at a “Chinese” food restaurant (it was still good).
  4. Found out that some roads that are on the map are not really there.
  5. Picked up the trail of old Route 66 and had a milkshake at a 50’s diner.
