Reminder

Categories: random stuff

Just reminding everyone that I’ll be a little bit out of pocket for a few days. The fam and I are headed up to Denver tomorrow to participate in Off the Map’s “Born Again Church Tour.” We’ll be hosted by fellow blogger Kathy Escobar. We’re very excited about this opportunity to learn and to meet new people (and to see a part of America we have yet to see).

Anyhow…while I’m gone, you’ll still have something to read here. I’m going to schedule a few “best of” re-postings, and as I can, I’ll check in live from Denver. God bless, and I’ll give you a report when I get back.

The Phantom Strikes Again (or The Ghost In the Machine)

An update to my post about the Phantom of the Laptop

This morning the phantom struck again, at the same keyboard keys I have had trouble with. And rebooting the laptop twice did not solve the problem.

So in an act of desperation, I lifted my laptop off the table, and firmly tapped the bottom of it underneath the acting-up letters (YES, it was a “tap”; I did not “hit” my computer, although I wanted to).

Presto. It now works perfectly. So maybe the phantom is just wanting a massage or something. So I’ll try the tapping thing for awhile.

A Little Bit Too Eclectic for Moi?

Categories: random stuff, What the heck was THAT?

When I was a music major in college, I had to listen to a lot of crap progressive music. And call it “art.” Because that’s what music majors do.

See, we didn’t just listen to Beethoven, Brahms, and Wagner (pronounced, “VAHG-ner”). We listened sometimes to this really weird experimental stuff. Stuff done with electronic sound devices instead of instruments even. Really weird stuff. And it’s “art”–I know, because the professors told me it was. Apparently some guy even wrote a song with 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence and called it music. (Now that’s enough to wake you up on a Monday morning.)

Save Jordy

As you may recall, a couple of weeks ago I invited you to vote in an online “Pampered Pet” photo contest for our dog, Jordy. I put a convient link in the sidebar to remind everyone to vote.

There are now over 4000 entries. And Jordy has held his own for awhile, but it’s been harder to keep him in the running.

You might say he’s been, um…tailing in the polls. 🙂

Here’s the entry below! (Isn’t he cute?)

Quotes of Note

Hat tip to Kathy at “the carnival in my head.” In a recent post, she had this idea of sharing the more memorable quotes that had happened in her life. I thought it was a cool idea, so I’m stealing it. (Actually, more like “borrowing” it.)

Here are some of the more memorable quotes in my life, in no particular order…

“Good people do bad things.”
–A chaplain at ORU, trying to explain to me the politics behind the firing of our campus worship leader, for whom I had played the piano during my freshman year.

Hey, everyone…

If you check the left column of the page, you’ll see that my Blog Roll has returned, with a few updates. I’m trying Blogger’s new version of the Blog Roll (I was using an external program before). I’ve updated the Blog Roll from some of the blogs in my reader, and there are some new ones on the list; yours might even be there! If you were on the Blog Roll before and somehow I missed you, let me know so I can update the list. (If for some reason you don’t want your blog to be listed, let me know that, too.)

I’ve Tried for a Long Time to Write This Post, But I Just Can’t

I don’t know why, but it seems like I just can’t write this post.

I’ve sat several times in front of this computer, trying to figure out what to say, or what’s on my mind. I have a few thoughts swirling around, but nothing right now that I can really verbalize. I have a few drafts sitting here and there, but nothing I feel is ready to publish.

Shipping Up to Denver…

Categories: random stuff

It appears that The Wild One, The Director and I will be visiting Denver, Colorado in a few weeks…

Fellow blogger Kathy Escobar, along with her community, The Refuge, are helping to host the Born Again Church Tour, sponsored by Off the Map. We’d been talking about coming up to visit and to minister for a weekend, and this conference seemed like a great opportunity to help out and to meet like-minded people. Off the Map is an out-of-the-box evangelism organization founded by Jim Henderson, co-author of Jim and Casper Go to Church.

We’re really looking forward to this–not just for participating in the conference but also because of the opportunity to learn and to meet new friends. If you live in the Denver area, or plan to be in the Denver area the weekend of October 17-18–please consider coming to the conference. The information is here.
