Twenty-Five

This post is actually going up a couple of days earlier than when I would typically post it, but I plan on being busy on that day. So considering that this is the day when I usually post here anyway, it goes up today.

Tuesday marks twenty-five years since The Wild One and I took our wedding vows. It’s a landmark for us, not just because of it being the Silver Anniversary and all, but also because it’s a landmark that none of our immediate family, for one reason or another, were able to reach. Only our grandparents made it this far.

Just Thinking Out Loud…

Yesterday, The Wild One and I had the awesome experience of seeing some dear friends from the past who came to Colorado on vacation–people we had not seen in many years. We had a great time wandering around town and catching up.

The one thing, though, that captured my attention was how intrigued they seemed to be about our story–the story of how our family made the leap of faith to begin pursuing our creative dreams. They seemed inspired and challenged.

This weekend, I encountered a significant moment of mission.

This weekend, I was able to have a meaningful conversation with a local musician. His band has been doing very well, and gaining a lot of traction, but recently something went wrong that apparently caused a derailment.

That might not seem like much to the average onlooker, but for someone who has invested their very life and livelihood into a band, it can be extremely disastrous and painful. Bands become families, and any kind of crisis affects all involved. So when I saw this band member, I approached him from the standpoint of, “You don’t have to tell me anything you don’t want to–I’m just here.”

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve seen fit to set up any kind of rant on this here blog. But something happened this week that took me into the past and stirred up a lot of righteous indignation in me. So you get to wade through it here. (Sorry–or as the case may be, you’re welcome.)

Thoughts On Fear and Trust

Forgive me if this post, along with the last, seem a bit too introspective. I’m in the midst of processing a lot of things internally, and writing about it seems to be therapeutic for me. As I said a few weeks ago, this has become my journal of sorts, but I also figure that blogging about it gives the opportunity for others who might be feeling the same things to find something to help them on their own journey–and if that happens, it’s worth being a little bit vulnerable. So if you get bored with people rambling on about their internal emotions and feelings, feel free to skip this post. πŸ™‚

Control Issues

Categories: Meanderings (look it up)

I think the next two posts may very well go hand in hand, although they will deal with different topics. That’s all I’m gonna say about it now, to bait you to keep reading…heh heh…

It takes awhile sometimes for God to get through to me, but in looking at a series of events that have unfolded in my life over the past several months, I see a common thread: all of them seem to be exposing my control issues. I am an admitted control freak, and have even referenced it multiple times tongue-in-cheekly on this here blog. But I suppose it’s now time not just to admit it, but to deal with it.

I Actually Said Some Cool Stuff

One of the more ironic things about me (please don’t laugh) is that before I began blogging, I never thought of myself as a journal-writer. I thought I didn’t really like to journal about because it was time consuming and I felt I had better things to do.

This self-deception was put to rest when a few years ago we were going through some stuff in storage, and The Wild One pulled out a box full of steno pads I’d filled with notes, most of which I’d never looked at since I’d written in them.

As the Situation Demands

Categories: food for thought

I’m pondering this morning something I’ve come to know about God–something that actually gives me comfort, even when it sometimes frustrates me.

God does not always respond the way we want Him to, or the way we would respond were we in His shoes. He always responds as the situation demands.

Normally On This Day, I Post a Picture of Dancing Mexicans…

Categories: Things that Are Amazingly Awesome, Things that Will Probably Get Me In Trouble, Things the Mexicans were doing when I was born

As long-time readers know, my birthday is an anomaly of the universe. For some inexplicable reason, the lovely people of Mexico take to the streets and dance and celebrate in my honor every May 5. Β It has been this way ever since I was born. You don’t try to explain such things; you just embrace them.

Normally, on May 5 each year, I post a picture of these wonderful people celebrating me. But this year, a friend of mine posted a picture on my Facebook wall that was just too good not to share. So, dear blogger friends, I give you…Cinco de Mayo.
