Yesterday, The Wild One and I had the awesome experience of seeing some dear friends from the past who came to Colorado on vacation–people we had not seen in many years. We had a great time wandering around town and catching up.

The one thing, though, that captured my attention was how intrigued they seemed to be about our story–the story of how our family made the leap of faith to begin pursuing our creative dreams. They seemed inspired and challenged.

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this kind of response, and to tell you the truth, I always feel a little bewildered and a little humbled when I see it. After all, to us, this life is not some deliberate decision to be unconventional–to us, it’s normal, just how we live, how we make choices. But I guess in the eyes of some, we live a life of risk, as opposed to playing it “safe.” It seems like people watch us pursuing our dreams and perhaps feel challenged that they have not done a whole lot to pursue their own. I don’t know–it’s probably a different thing for everyone, but I do realize this is a factor that plays into it. Sometimes, this results in people trying to judge us or put us down in an attempt to justify their own lack of fulfillment. Other times, it seems like it inspires people. In the case of our friends, thankfully, it seems to be the latter.

Regardless, all of this makes me realize once again that maybe our unique little family–this small creative collective that just seems to have “happened” with us–really has a story that needs telling. There seems to be a reason why people respond to our story the way that they do. It’s got me thinking again about possibly starting a different blog, specifically to tell the story of our creative journey.

Stay tuned…I’ll let you know.
