Hark! Who Goes There? (and Some Other Stuff)

So I have put this FEEDJIT thing on my blog. You can find it down the page on the right sidebar of my blog. It’s pretty cool because whenever someone visits my blog, from anywhere on earth, anywhere at all…it immediately logs that person’s location, name, address, phone number, photograph, and personally identifying information, including account numbers for any major credit cards they own.

Well, not really. Actually, all it does is log the city, state or country that person is visiting from. And you can tell FEEDJIT to ignore your visits, so you can remain incognito, if you want. And you can even tell FEEDJIT to lie and say you are visiting from, say, Saskatoon, when you are really visiting from somewhere in Kansas. And lots of times it says someone is visiting from some exotic place, like “United States”, which tells me pretty much nothing. So it’s actually pretty useless.

But it’s still pretty cool.

Anyhow.

Watching the FEEDJIT feed has made me curious about some of the places that regularly show up there. So I thought it would be cool if some of our more regular visitors would like to just leave a quick comment and say which city or country they are hailing from. For example:

“Hey, my name’s Sarah, and I’m the one who keeps visiting from Wasilla, Alaska. Palin in 2012!!”

Or whatever.

Now, if you’re one who’s concerned about privacy issues on the Internet and all that, don’t get freaked out or anything. You don’t have to leave a comment if you’re not comfortable doing so. And really, I was kidding about FEEDJIT lifting your credit card information. Really. It doesn’t do that. And it so happens I moderate my comments before I post them, so if you want, you could say hi in the comments, and if you don’t want your comment made public, just tell me to delete it. You can use just your first name, or not use your real name at all. (Although that would probably about as useless as saying you’re from the United States.)

No pressure–just thought it would be fun to know who’s visiting these days.

…AND SOME OTHER STUFF…

You might have noticed (if you don’t read my blog in a reader) that I’ve changed the blog template. (Got really tired of the green thing.) You will continue to see some changes and tweaks over the next few days and weeks, including (hopefully) a cool new header The Director will be designing for me. Meanwhile, I put up a poll on the left sidebar asking for feedback on the new look. So lemmeknowhatchathink. And if you’re having more specific technical difficulties, be sure and inform me, either in the comments or via the email address on my Blogger profile. (Apparently, some folks were having trouble leaving comments a few weeks ago.)

Guess that’s enough time-wasting for now. Thanks for wasting it with me.

I’m Erin and I’m an Oregonian. Usually it will say Portland for me, but sometimes Gresham.

I noticed the new template yesterday, and like it.

  2. Amy

    Jeff,
I love the new look, Jeff! Good color (I especially like anything with brownish hues. I love “earthy” colors.) Anyways, I am Amy and I am an Arizonan. (Hee hee!)

Thanks for the neat info on Feedjit. Enjoy discovering where your visitors are from!

    Blessings,
    ~Amy 🙂

Thanks, Erin, Amy, and Fred. I was hoping to hear from some of the “quieter regulars” that haven’t ever commented. (Oh, well.) But always happy to hear from all of you!

Based on comments left and the poll data so far…looks like opinions on the new look are across the board.

    howdy,
As you know, I connect from your home town, Broken Arrow, OK.

Also, the Green was the Church Seasonal color of Epiphany, and Purple is that of Lent, which begins today.

    Interesting… 😉

  5. Spankie

    hey, im brother frankie..(spankie)

im the one that is visiting from florida. (it says orlando but its not)

i use a reader, your colors dont make a diff.. 🙂

  6. Milly

Because the vote thing for your layout doesn’t have a comment area I thought I be so bold as to put my view in. (That’s how us Okies are.;-)

The color is nice but the pictures don’t match your profile, you seem like a down town guy but more the John 3:16 mission and rugged cross.

    Just my thoughts.

    Blessings,
    Milly

I laughed because I was in Chihuahua, Mexico the other day and when I logged onto your site I thought, “He is going to wonder who reads him in Mexico.” Sadly it was just me on a visit to my sister who is a missionary down there. Otherwise it reads me as State College, PA…but then you probably knew that.

    Gary,
Awesome, bro. I spent 4 years in Cincinnati myself, and The Wild One grew up there.

    M-I-T,
    I’m prophetic that way. 🙂

Frankie-Spankie, good to hear from you.

    Milly,
Finally–someone I haven’t heard from before. Thanks for chiming in, and for your input.

    Barb,
That was YOU? Dang. 🙂 I was just about to launch a Spanish version… 🙂
