For those who have been waiting with baited breath for my long-awaited personal update–you can exhale now.  And sorry for the discomfort I may have caused you.

For the past couple of months, I’ve been working on something (and waiting for the results), keeping fairly quiet because I wanted to be able to tell the whole story. Now, I finally feel I can talk about it.

We became homeowners this week, for the first time in nearly 20 years. We bought the townhome we’ve been renting for the past 2 years from our landlord.

For those who have been tracking with me lately on my musical journey…I wanted to share this with you: the soundtrack I composed for “Jeune Fille”, The Director’s short film.

This film project was over a year in the making, with the soundtrack being composed, recorded and mixed since about November. The final mix was finished literally days before we premiered the film. The premiere went extremely well, and the next step is to get the film entered into film festivals.

And that’s where this shameless plug comes in.

As I may have mentioned earlier, our recent move to Denver was not for the typical reasons people move from one place to another. We moved with a dream incubating in our hearts, to start a new life based on focusing on our strengths, and on doing the things we love…to see what God would do with that. We didn’t come here knowing what everything was going to look like, but believing that God would show us when we got here.

So if you’ve been following along, you now know that we are leaving Tulsa and moving to Denver in less than three weeks. (If you haven’t been following, read part 1, part 2 and part 3 to catch up.)

It might seem a bit sudden–and definitely the move date itself is coming up more quickly than we had anticipated–but honestly, we’ve been pondering this move for awhile. We didn’t say much to very many people, simply because we didn’t have details about how, when, where, and “We’re gonna leave sometime in the not-too-distant future” just seemed too vague. 🙂 We’ve spent most of this season not knowing how we could do this–and this last trip to Denver, enough pieces of the puzzle came together to prompt a commitment from us.

If you’re just arriving, I urge you to read part 1 and part 2 before reading this.

So after all the teasing and buildup about BIG change coming, I’ve taken two posts so far to drag it on as long as I can take the time to explain what we’re dreaming of, and why.

I’ve shared about wanting to see a creative community be born, one that doesn’t look like “church” or “ministry” as we’ve understood it before, one in which the arts can be genuinely encouraged and nurtured, and one in which the love of Christ can be freely expressed in a natural manner, without agenda. And I’ve shared our conviction that it needs to happen organically, not by “starting” something, but by embedding ourselves in a community and doing what we do.

Normally, today I would post an excerpt from my bi-weekly contribution to Communitas Collective. However, I’m in the middle of something here; so today I’m just putting up a link to the article, so I can continue with “The Big Reveal.” 🙂

I started this yesterday by sharing a dream in our hearts that still lacks detail, but is taking shape–a dream of an out-of-the-box creative community for the mutual nurturing and encouraging of the arts, one in which the love of Christ can be ministered without it taking on the churchy cultural feel, and without attempting to create “Christian” art. (Remember–“Christian” is supposed to be a noun, not an adjective. People are Christians, not art.)

For a number of months now, I’ve been teasing and baiting my readers about something BIG coming in my life, dreams my family and I are dreaming, changes happening.

The wait is (almost) over.

I say “almost” because this thing is so BIG that I’m taking more than one post to reveal it. Starting today.

And I say “BIG” because it’s huge for me…it might not be so big for you once you read about it. Just so you won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t blow you away. 🙂

Step Up

Something good, something powerful, is happening.

Please go read Jonathan Brink’s latest post, “A Call to Men.”

Especially if you are a man.

And don’t just read it.

Make a decision. Step up. And live it.

It is now apparent that something more is flowing through this conversation than just words and thoughts. It has taken on a life of its own.

In my lingo, I’d call it a “God thing.”

The hearts of men are being convicted and stirred. And hopefully, through it, the hearts of women will be healed, and their voices released.

In the summer of my sophomore year of college, I spent eight weeks traveling with a Music Ministries team from college. We were called “Frontline.”

Stop laughing; we were Christians in the ’80’s, alright? That name was cool back then. Also cool were our pastel outfits, Miami Vice white sport jackets and big hair. It wasn’t funny; it was cool. (What’s funny is that 22 years later, they are still using the name “Frontline.”)
