So apparently the talk about the Lakeland revival meetings has not quieted down in the blogosphere. It is a hot topic, to be sure. I know a couple of pastors who have already traveled down to see what is happening.
I posted a couple of times about it, and you can read those here and here. But since I wrote those posts, my knowledge of Todd Bentley has increased, and I have to say I was disturbed by what I learned. When I first chimed in, I was not aware of Bentley’s emphasis on angelic visitations, particularly a female angel he calls “Emma.” HUH?? (I believe in angels and angelic visitations, but the Bible makes some things clear about what we should and should not consider valid about them.) And there are some other things Bentley has reportedly said and taught about his supernatural experiences that I believe to be highly un-Biblical. So while I can still accept that God is still responding to the hunger in Lakeland and is genuinely doing something there…I also have to admit that my overall concerns have greatly increased.
I have to say that most of the discussions I’ve read about this on the blogs have been thoughtful and respectful, even while raising valid questions–and I appreciate that. I personally have no stomach for name-calling or sarcastic jibes against people, even if you think the person is way off. There has been a little bit of that–but not much.
That said…here are links to just a few of the blogs and articles in the ongoing discussion which I felt were particularly helpful:
“Healing Revival” by kingdom grace. Always a thoughtful approach here.
“BAM! (thunk)” by Robbymac.
“Honest Questions About the Lakeland Revival.” An online article by J. Lee Grady from Charisma Magazine. (HT: Nate for letting us know about this article and reposting it.)
My friend Jason just came back from Lakeland and had similar feedback to yours Jeff. He said that he saw many healed but also saw many leave in the wheelchairs that they came in. I feel that, with my wife in a wheelchair, I want to be sensitive to the Spirit’s direction about going down to Florida. God may open doors but I am content if He does not.
