I gotta be honest–despite all I’ve learned in my ten years in Tulsa, and despite the friendships I’ve had, and the wonderful sense of community with house church…there are a lot of things about Tulsa that I won’t miss.
But here’s one thing they have here that they don’t have in Denver, and something I’ll definitely miss:
QuikTrip is without a doubt the best convenience store ever. The folks who invented it and designed it are geniuses.

I’ve been so overwhelmed with details lately that I just feel like letting my brain take a little walk this morning. So come on along… 🙂
Aside from pastor friends and others who question whether I’ve lost my salvation…there is (or was, at first) a little bit of personal concern I had in my journey away from the beaten paths of institutional Christianity.

So if you’ve been following along, you now know that we are leaving Tulsa and moving to Denver in less than three weeks. (If you haven’t been following, read part 1, part 2 and part 3 to catch up.)
It might seem a bit sudden–and definitely the move date itself is coming up more quickly than we had anticipated–but honestly, we’ve been pondering this move for awhile. We didn’t say much to very many people, simply because we didn’t have details about how, when, where, and “We’re gonna leave sometime in the not-too-distant future” just seemed too vague. 🙂 We’ve spent most of this season not knowing how we could do this–and this last trip to Denver, enough pieces of the puzzle came together to prompt a commitment from us.

So after all the teasing and buildup about BIG change coming, I’ve taken two posts so far to drag it on as long as I can take the time to explain what we’re dreaming of, and why.
I’ve shared about wanting to see a creative community be born, one that doesn’t look like “church” or “ministry” as we’ve understood it before, one in which the arts can be genuinely encouraged and nurtured, and one in which the love of Christ can be freely expressed in a natural manner, without agenda. And I’ve shared our conviction that it needs to happen organically, not by “starting” something, but by embedding ourselves in a community and doing what we do.

Normally, today I would post an excerpt from my bi-weekly contribution to Communitas Collective. However, I’m in the middle of something here; so today I’m just putting up a link to the article, so I can continue with “The Big Reveal.” 🙂
I started this yesterday by sharing a dream in our hearts that still lacks detail, but is taking shape–a dream of an out-of-the-box creative community for the mutual nurturing and encouraging of the arts, one in which the love of Christ can be ministered without it taking on the churchy cultural feel, and without attempting to create “Christian” art. (Remember–“Christian” is supposed to be a noun, not an adjective. People are Christians, not art.)

For a number of months now, I’ve been teasing and baiting my readers about something BIG coming in my life, dreams my family and I are dreaming, changes happening.
The wait is (almost) over.
I say “almost” because this thing is so BIG that I’m taking more than one post to reveal it. Starting today.
And I say “BIG” because it’s huge for me…it might not be so big for you once you read about it. Just so you won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t blow you away. 🙂

Seems like whenever we have gone to Denver, we end up squeezing a bunch of stuff into a few days, and go home good and tired. In other words, we don’t get a lot of rest.
But then again, Colorado isn’t really the place to go and relax. Too much stuff to do!
We’ve shared meals with several friends up this way, and had some great times of conversation. (We’re meeting some new friends tonight, recommended by a mutual friend.) In between meeting people, we’ve squeezed in as much sightseeing as we possibly can. Yesterday we spent the day in the mountains, specifically in Georgetown and Breckenridge. Highs in the upper 60s up there (compare to high 90s back in Tulsa) felt pretty good to us. Great shops, great scenery, and so many friendly people.
